Buy SHIB on Coinbase, Kraken, Crypto.com, Robinhood or MetaMask. Step-by-step 2026 guide with Ethereum vs Solana addresses, storage tips and a sourced price outlook.
Shiba Inu (SHIB) is one of the easiest cryptocurrencies to buy and one of the easiest to get wrong. It trades on nearly every major exchange, costs a fraction of a cent per token, and since October 4, 2026 it lives on two blockchains, Ethereum and Solana, with two different contract addresses. This guide walks through the main ways to buy SHIB in the United States and Europe, how to store it safely, and what the data actually says about its price outlook. Payment options and limits below come from each platform's own pages, checked in October 2026; fees change often, so confirm the final cost on the order preview screen before you buy. There are no affiliate links in this guide.

Quick picks
These are starting points, not a ranking. Each option is explained in its own section below.
- Simplest first purchase in the US: Coinbase. SHIB is listed on its main app, and US users can pay by bank account, debit card, PayPal or wire.
- Best if you want card payments and euro support: Kraken. It accepts Visa and Mastercard for verified users, supports USD and EUR, and lets you start from $10.
- Best if you also want BONE and LEASH: Crypto.com. The app lists SHIB alongside the two other Shiba Inu ecosystem tokens.
- Best if you already use Robinhood for stocks: Robinhood. SHIB sits next to your brokerage account in the same app.
- Best for self-custody from day one: MetaMask. You buy through third-party payment providers and the SHIB lands directly in a wallet you control.
What you are actually buying
Shiba Inu is a meme coin launched in 2020 by a pseudonymous developer known as Ryoshi, according to both Kraken and Crypto.com . It began as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum and was pitched as a Dogecoin rival; our Dogecoin coin page covers the original. Around SHIB the team has built a small ecosystem: BONE (the governance token for the ShibaSwap exchange), LEASH (a limited-supply token), and Shibarium, an Ethereum layer-2 network.
Here are the numbers that matter before you buy, from CoinGecko and Coinbase on October 8, 2026:
- Price: about $0.0000054 per SHIB.
- Market capitalisation: about $3.18 billion, ranked #38 on CoinGecko.
- Circulating supply: about 589.24 trillion SHIB.
- All-time high: $0.00008616 in October 2021. Today's price is roughly 94% below that peak.
- One-year change: down about 55%.
The tiny unit price is the first thing to understand. At $0.0000054, $100 buys roughly 18.5 million SHIB. That feels like a lot of coins, but the number of tokens you hold says nothing about value. What matters is the percentage change in price, exactly as with any other asset.
How to buy Shiba Inu in 5 steps
The process is the same on almost every centralised exchange.
- Pick a platform that lists SHIB in your country. All the platforms below list it, but availability and payment methods vary by state and country.
- Create and verify your account. Expect to provide an email address, phone number and government ID. Turn on two-factor authentication straight away, ideally with an authenticator app rather than SMS.
- Add money. Bank transfers (ACH in the US, SEPA in Europe) are usually the cheapest way. Cards and PayPal are faster but often cost more.
- Buy SHIB. Search for SHIB, enter the amount in dollars or euros, check the preview screen for the total fee and spread, then confirm. A market order buys immediately at the current price; a limit order waits for the price you set.
- Decide where to keep it. You can leave SHIB on the exchange or withdraw it to your own wallet. If you withdraw, pick the right network first (more on this below).
If you are still choosing between exchanges, our beginner exchange guide compares fees, custody and EU licensing for the main platforms.
Coinbase
Who it is for: US beginners who want the simplest possible first purchase.
Coinbase confirms on its SHIB buying page that Shiba Inu is available on its centralised exchange in the United States. It says SHIB is the #5 most popular crypto traded on Coinbase.
- Payment methods (US): bank account, debit card or wire transfer. US customers can also buy with PayPal, and digital gift cards can be redeemed for crypto in the US (not in Hawaii).
- Credit cards: Coinbase says credit cards cannot currently be used to buy SHIB.
- Fees: Coinbase does not publish a fixed SHIB fee on that page. It says fees depend on your location, payment method, order size and market conditions, and that the exact fee appears on the trade preview screen before you confirm.
Pros: very simple app, PayPal option in the US, high SHIB trading activity.
Cons: no credit card purchases for SHIB, and the simple buy flow can cost more than an order-book trade. Check the preview screen.
Custody: custodial by default, meaning Coinbase holds the keys while SHIB sits in your account. You can withdraw to your own wallet at any time.
Kraken
Who it is for: buyers who want card payments, euro support, or a path to cheaper order-book trading later.
According to Kraken's Shiba Inu buying guide :
- Payment methods: bank wire, ACH, credit and debit card, and PayPal deposits, depending on region.
- Cards: card purchases are available to users with Intermediate or Pro verification in supported countries, using a Visa or Mastercard with 3D Secure in the same legal name as the account.
- Currencies: USD, EUR, CAD and other fiat currencies are supported.
- Minimum: you can buy as little as $10 of SHIB, and recurring buys are available (charges apply).
- Swapping: if there is no direct pair, Kraken's Convert tool can swap any listed coin for SHIB.
Pros: card and PayPal options, euro support for European buyers, low minimum.
Cons: card purchases require a higher verification level, and fees depend on payment type, so the preview screen is again the place to check.
Custody: custodial by default; Kraken itself says the safest place for crypto is your own wallet and lets you withdraw SHIB to any compatible hot or cold wallet.
Crypto.com
Who it is for: buyers who want SHIB alongside BONE and LEASH in one app.
Crypto.com's US buying guide says its app gives access to SHIB, BONE and LEASH. Funding options include ACH bank transfers, credit or debit cards, crypto deposits, and Apple Pay or Google Pay. The company notes that card purchases may carry fees and that other transaction fees and spreads may apply. Active traders can use the separate Crypto.com Exchange for limit orders.
Pros: wide choice of funding methods, all three Shiba Inu ecosystem tokens in one place, recurring buys.
Cons: the app's spread and card fees can add up on small purchases.
Custody: custodial in the main app; you can withdraw to a self-custody wallet.
Robinhood
Who it is for: people who already hold stocks on Robinhood and want a small SHIB position in the same app.
Robinhood offers SHIB through its crypto service, with a dedicated SHIB page for US customers. The convenience is the main draw: no new account if you already use the brokerage. As with the others, check the order preview for the price you will pay, and check whether crypto transfers out of the app are available for your account before you treat it as a long-term home for your coins.
Pros: one app for stocks and crypto, simple interface.
Cons: fewer crypto features than a dedicated exchange.
MetaMask: buying straight into your own wallet
Who it is for: buyers who want to hold their own keys from the first purchase.
MetaMask's SHIB buying page explains that you can buy SHIB inside the wallet with a debit card, credit card, bank transfer, Apple Pay, Google Pay or PayPal, depending on your region. MetaMask collects quotes from several third-party payment providers so you can compare rates, and the SHIB goes straight into your self-custodial wallet with no exchange account. MetaMask says there is no fixed minimum; many providers start around $1 to $5.
The basic flow: open MetaMask, tap Buy, choose your region and currency, select SHIBA INU and the network, enter the amount, pick a payment method and provider, and complete the purchase. You can also swap another token you already hold for SHIB.
Pros: you control the keys immediately; competitive quotes from multiple providers; works on both Ethereum and Solana.
Cons: you are fully responsible for your recovery phrase, and network fees on Ethereum can be high relative to a small purchase.
Ethereum or Solana? Check the network before every transfer
This is the part most older "how to buy" guides miss. On October 4, 2026, SHIB went live on Solana through Sunrise, a token gateway that uses Wormhole's Native Token Transfers standard. The official Shiba Inu and Solana accounts both confirmed the listing within minutes, as logged by Solana Compass . BeInCrypto reports that the Solana version is the canonical token rather than a wrapped copy, and the bridging design means total supply stays the same across both chains.
That leaves two official addresses:
- Ethereum (ERC-20): 0x95aD61b0a150d79219dCF64E1E6Cc01f0B64C4cE
- Solana: shib5gSoVKPjwkXrxRk7SbQFzb2R9rQB3TgQWYX4RwW
Three rules keep you safe:
- Verify the address from an official source. Copycat tokens using the SHIB name already exist on Solana, and the Solana account told users to check the address on the tokens.xyz registry before trading. A token that shows up on a decentralised exchange with the right name is not genuine just because of the name.
- Match the network on withdrawals. When you withdraw from an exchange, choose the network first and paste the address second. Ethereum and Solana wallets use different address formats, and tokens sent to the wrong network are usually lost for good.
- You do not need to switch. If you buy and hold on an exchange, neither contract address matters to you. Moving to Solana is only worth it if you want to use Solana apps. Our analysis of Solana's DEX market share explains why so much meme-coin trading happens there, and our Solana coin page covers the network itself.
Where to store SHIB after you buy it
You have three realistic options:
- Leave it on the exchange. Easiest, and fine for small amounts you plan to trade. The exchange holds the keys, so you rely on its security and solvency.
- A software wallet you control. MetaMask and similar wallets hold SHIB on Ethereum and Solana. You keep a recovery phrase; anyone who gets it can take your coins.
- A hardware wallet. For larger amounts, a device that keeps the private key offline is the safest route. Crypto.com's guide names Ledger and Trezor as examples of cold storage for SHIB. Check that your device and companion app support the network you plan to use, especially if you want SHIB on Solana. Our wallet guide compares the main hardware and software options.
Whatever you choose, never type your recovery phrase into a website, and be suspicious of anyone in a chat or comment thread offering to help you "sync" a wallet.
Shiba Inu price outlook: what the data shows
No one can tell you where SHIB will trade next month, and this section does not try. Instead, here is what verifiable data and published analysis say as of early October 2026.
Recent price action
SHIB fell about 9% on October 7 to roughly $0.00000537, according to CoinMarketCap's price analysis , which tied the drop to a broad meme-coin sell-off and more than $550 million in crypto liquidations as Bitcoin slid. CoinGecko data shows SHIB down about 7.4% over the past week and about 55% over the past year.
Chart levels analysts are watching
These are third-party technical levels, not forecasts:
- CoinMarketCap's analysis named $0.00000540 to $0.00000545 as near-term support on October 7, with $0.00000520 as the next level if that breaks, and noted SHIB's 14-day RSI at 14.62, a deeply oversold reading.
- A CryptoTicker analysis published October 5 cited analysts pointing to resistance at $0.0000060, then $0.0000067 and $0.0000072, and support between $0.0000055 and $0.0000056, then $0.0000051 to $0.0000052. Price has since fallen below that first support zone.
Why token burns do not move the price much
SHIB's community regularly "burns" tokens by sending them to addresses no one controls. The same CryptoTicker piece, citing the Shibburn tracker, counted 384,044,752 SHIB burned over the 30 days to October 5. That sounds large, but it equals about 0.0000656% of the circulating supply. Most of the roughly 41% of the original one quadrillion tokens taken out of circulation came from a single burn by Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin in May 2021, not from ongoing burns.
What would it take to reach $0.01 or $1?
Simple arithmetic with today's supply of about 589.24 trillion tokens:
- At $0.01 per SHIB, the market cap would be about $5.9 trillion, far more than Bitcoin's entire market value.
- At $1 per SHIB, it would be about $589 trillion, several times global GDP.
Unless the supply shrinks dramatically, those targets are not realistic. Even a return to the 2021 all-time high would mean a market cap of roughly $50 billion, according to CryptoTicker's estimate.
Catalysts and risks to watch
- Solana expansion (positive for access). The Solana listing opens SHIB to a new pool of traders and apps. CryptoTicker reported about $514,000 of liquidity in the first 20 minutes. It adds reach, not new utility.
- Japan (positive for access). SHIB is on the Green List of Japan's crypto exchange association, the JVCEA , with nine member firms handling it as of July 22, 2026. Green List status simplifies listings in Japan. CryptoCompass notes it does not mean a Japanese SHIB ETF has been filed or approved.
- ETF exposure (limited). There is no dedicated US spot SHIB ETF. T. Rowe Price's Active Crypto ETF lists SHIB among its eligible assets in its June 18, 2026 SEC prospectus , but CoinDesk reports the fund rotates among five to 15 assets, so holding SHIB is not guaranteed.
- Shibarium weakness (negative). The Shibarium bridge was exploited on September 12, 2025. A K9 Finance DAO governance paper says the stolen tokens were not recovered and the bridge remained closed months later. K9 has since moved its token to Base. U.Today quotes a long-time community member saying Shibarium still runs, but reported daily transactions of about 1,530, down from 2,310 on August 20. CryptoTicker put value locked in Shibarium apps at about $56,677 in early October.
- Meme-coin sentiment (the main driver). SHIB trades with the wider meme-coin sector and with overall risk appetite. Large holders can move the price sharply.
Put plainly: buying SHIB is a bet on attention and market sentiment, not on cash flows. If you buy, size the position so that a large drop would not hurt you, and consider buying in small recurring amounts rather than all at once.
How to choose where to buy SHIB
- Want the simplest US experience? Coinbase or Robinhood.
- Need to pay by card, or live in Europe? Kraken, which supports cards for verified users and EUR funding. European buyers should also confirm their provider is authorised under the EU's MiCA rules; our exchange guide lists who holds a licence.
- Want BONE and LEASH too? Crypto.com.
- Want your own keys immediately? MetaMask, then consider a hardware wallet as your balance grows.
- Planning to use Solana apps? Use a wallet that supports Solana and double-check the Solana address above.
In every case, compare the total cost on the preview screen, start with a small test purchase, and do a small test withdrawal before moving a large amount.
FAQ
Can I buy Shiba Inu on Coinbase?
Yes. Coinbase lists SHIB on its centralised exchange in the United States. US customers can pay with a bank account, debit card, PayPal or wire transfer, but Coinbase says credit cards cannot currently be used to buy SHIB.
How much Shiba Inu can I buy with $100?
At about $0.0000054 per token on October 8, 2026, $100 buys roughly 18.5 million SHIB before fees. The exact amount changes with the price and the platform's fees and spread.
What is the minimum amount of SHIB I can buy?
It depends on the platform. Kraken says you can buy as little as $10 of SHIB. MetaMask has no fixed minimum, but its payment providers typically start around $1 to $5.
Is Shiba Inu on Solana the same token?
Yes. Since October 4, 2026, there is an official Solana version of SHIB launched through the Sunrise gateway, using Wormhole's Native Token Transfers standard. It has its own contract address (shib5gSoVKPjwkXrxRk7SbQFzb2R9rQB3TgQWYX4RwW), and the original Ethereum token still exists. Always verify the address before trading.
Can SHIB reach $1?
At today's supply of about 589 trillion tokens, $1 per SHIB would mean a market cap of about $589 trillion, which is not realistic. Even $0.01 would require about $5.9 trillion. Burns currently remove only a tiny fraction of supply each month.
Is there a Shiba Inu ETF?
There is no dedicated US spot SHIB ETF. T. Rowe Price's Active Crypto ETF lists SHIB as an eligible asset, but the fund rotates among five to 15 coins and is not required to hold it.
Is it safe to keep SHIB on an exchange?
For small amounts it is convenient, but the exchange holds the keys. For larger amounts, a self-custody wallet, ideally a hardware wallet, removes exchange risk. You then become responsible for protecting your recovery phrase.
Is Shiba Inu a good investment?
That depends on your goals and risk tolerance. SHIB is a highly volatile meme coin trading about 94% below its 2021 peak, and its price is driven mainly by sentiment rather than revenue. Only invest money you can afford to lose.
